Healthy Club Policy for West
Australian Speed Boat Club
Purpose
To outline the West Australian Speed
Boat Clubs commitment to the promotion of good health.
Responsibility
All Members, Officials, Drivers,
Volunteers. Patrons
Timing
This policy is effective from 1st
October 2007
Smoking
West Australian Speed Boat Club
recognizes that smoking and passive smoking are
hazardous to health. We will ensure a smoke free
environment by:
Ensuring all areas of the club, including the
change rooms, offices, verandah and the bar are smoke
free.
Not selling tobacco products on the premises.
Prominently displaying non-smoking signage.
All
official functions (including dinners, presentations,
fund-raising events, meetings, social occasions) will be
100% smoke free.
Alcohol
West Australian Speed Boat Club will
promote the responsible adult use of alcohol by:
Ensuring alcohol is not served to any person who is
intoxicated or under the age of 18 years.
Discouraging excessive, or rapid consumption of alcohol
Promoting lower pricing on low and non alcoholic drinks.
Also providing free unbottled water.
Providing responsible server training for paid staff and
volunteers who serve alcoholic drinks in our bar
The irresponsible use of alcohol
will not be glamorized or promoted
Alcohol will not be used for prizes
or awards.
Drugs
The health and safety of all
participants is our primary concern. We will actively
seek to promote, encourage and support strategies to
prevent or reduce harm from drug use.
West Australian Speed Boat Club
discourages the use of medications in respect of
injury/recovery that would enable a participant to
compete where they would not otherwise have been able.
Not allow participants under
the influence of alcohol and/or illegal drugs to
participate, in order to prevent harm to themselves and
other participants.
The use of illicit drugs and
performance enhancing drugs is not
permitted
We will adopt and be guided by the Sports Medicine
Australia policy on the administration of medications by
non-medical personnel.
Sun Protection
West Australian Speed Boat Club will
take all reasonable steps, where possible, to address
sun safe practices by:
Making maximum usage of existing shade facilities
Following the Cancer Council Western Australia
guidelines for Sun Smart, eg: clothing, use of sunscreen
and wearing of hats.
Sunscreen (SPF 30+, broad spectrum
water resistant) will be made available to members,
drivers, and volunteers. However when this is not
possible these parties will be encouraged to bring their
own.
Healthy Eating
West Australian Speed Boat Club
understands and recognizes the importance of good
nutrition and the role it plays in sports performance
Ensuring when food is provided, healthy alternatives, in
accordance with the Dietary Guidelines for Australians
are available.
Promoting good nutrition and healthy eating messages.
The club will make information
available to club members and families to promote
healthy lifestyles.
SPORT SAFETY
The West Australian
Speed Boat Club will encourage all Drivers, Officials,
Members and volunteers to adopt practices that seek to
prevent injury by.
The use of protective equipment is
promoted and where necessary, made mandatory
Providing Ambulance/ First Aid at
all race meetings.
Display appropriate signage
promoting safety
Members, and officiating personnel
will be given the opportunity to attend approved
training and accreditation courses in sports injury
prevention and treatment.

West Australian Speed Boat Club will
review this policy annually and ensure all Members,
Officials, Volunteers associated with the West
Australian Speed Boat Club are aware of the policy.
Ensure breaches of the policy are
addressed through the WASBC Committee
Review the health policy annually.
Adult Drivers, Club Members, Officials
and Volunteers are expected to set appropriate examples
and act as role models for Junior club members.
