Leading up to the 2011/2012 season opening day, drivers and crew members have been busy preparing boats and gear. Some undertaking repowering projects, others building up newly acquired boats. Whilst most are busily conducting final pre season checks and adjustments and applying the final coats of polish in readiness for the action to begin.
Displacement driver Les Smith has fired up and conducted trials in his new boat aptly named “Mad Dog”. Many drivers based on the east coast will recognize this boat at first glance as “Image” previously driven by well known driver Craig Lewis. Congratulations to Les on his recent purchase, we look forward to seeing him amongst the action this season.
After many successful years as a Formula Future driver and with multiple state titles and other championship races under his belt Lewis Rosenberg eagerly awaits his 16th birthday just in time for him to step into the 25hp class for the coming season where his state title holding father Rob eagerly awaits to challenge his young sibling. With Lewis’s driving skill and beautifully prepared new boat I don’t like dad’s chances of taking home the trophy this season unless he quietly brings out the screwdriver? Go Lewis!
October 9th at WASBC is opening day with Bathurst, BBQ, Bevies and boats! Come 6am Vice Commodore Larry Cowlin will be on BBQ duty cooking up the bacon and egg burgers, hash browns and snags. Whilst members sit back in front of the big screen and watch the V8 action.
Fortunately we have a fantastic band of volunteers who will man the rescue boats between 9am – 11am for members that wish to conduct a little V8 action on the water. Not to be outdone by the V8’s I imagine there will be a strong crew of outboard drivers conducting a little circuit work of their own.
For the Bathurst diehards the action will continue throughout the day, with members joined by family and friends for a magnificent chicken and champagne brunch thanks to Linda, Tracey, Peter and their team of helpers.
The racing calendar is looking great this season in the West with water heights at record levels and drivers looking forward to returning to Lake Towerrining for a weekend of camping and fast on water racing December 3 & 4 2011. The WASBC welcomes Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia [HCMA] as our major sponsor for this action packed event.
