WASBC and Lake Dumblyung in the Media
Message from the WASBC Commodore - Lake Dumbleyung

Hello Everyone,

When we asked the drivers the question, who wanted to stage an event at Lake Dumbleyung and you all put your hands up, we were wondering if it was for real.

The Closing Race of our WASBC 2017 Speed Boat Racing Season, Lake Dumbleyung, has come and gone. Job well done to you all.

To the members of the WASBC, the committee of the WASBC, Larry Cowlin the President WA APBA and Committee of the WA APBA, the Shire of Dumbleyung, Matthew Gilfellon, Nicole Taylor, SJ, Louisa Dare, Christine Bairstow, the community of Dumbleyung and surrounding country towns, thank you all for your support that you have given us in making History.
Not to forget the Department of Transport Marine Division, Lottery West and Department of Sport and Recreation Western Australia.
And we won’t forget, the Ambulance Crew, Saturday and Sunday. You are amazing people.
To the management of Stubbs Park, it was a great place for our members to stay.

The first power boat race event in fifty two years since the Donald Campbell graced the waters of the magnificent Lake Dumbleyung, achieving a World Water Speed Record in his Bluebird.

With very limited time to organise this event, the help and co-operation from everyone has been overwhelming.
As the Commodore of our club, I would once again like to say thank you and it has been a privilege to work with you all.

When I was elected Commodore of WASBC and subsequently Vice President of WA APBA, I set out on a mission.
Part of my mission was to bring some life back into Speed Boat Racing in WA, to take speed boat racing back to the communities of WA and to grow the sport back to where it began.
This past weekend has well and truly gone beyond my expectations.
The Bluebird Project was a God Send for the WASBC. The initial enquiry filtered through the club to ourselves.
My words to Hilary and Jono at the time were, “this is going to open new chapters for WASBC and for Dumbleyung.”
Not realising the magnitude of these chapters at the time, it has dawned on me now that the opportunities to build on success are endless.
The success is not my success. This success is a culmination of hard work and determination by each and every one of us involved, in any way.

Congratulations go to the Speed Boat Racing Drivers of WASBC, Junior’s through to Senior’s, on your display of excellent and disciplined driving at Lake Dumbleyung.
The waters and winds of Lake Dumbleyung are very alive and pose some unexpected surprises and challenges.
From Test and Tune on Saturday to racing on Sunday, the drivers rode to the conditions and did so well, some controlling hair-raising experiences.
Mathew, Jono and Blake to mention but a few, big air, safe landings. Well controlled.
Compliments go to our young Junior’s. It’s a big lake out there and you all drove your boats very well.

Thank you to our Start Boat driver, Mark Hellewell and flag man Josh, Race controller Dave Foord and Time Keeper / scorer Keith Woollard along with our volunteer flag marshals, rescue crews and divers, for taking us through a safe days racing.

Thank you to the pit crews for getting the boats wet (and changing some bearings) and the kitchen crew for keeping the tummies full.

Thanks Louisa for the drone camera footage and thanks to the media for your support.
Thanks John Ward for offering your boat to set up course and doing rescue duty, along with Christine, Phil and Scott for covering Sundays rescue duties.
Oh and thanks John for taking us for a test drive around the course in some very rough conditions.

Thanks to the members for the very nice display of Trophies that were donated for the day.
Even though we had prize giving under a camp light, it was great and it gave the winners a sense of achievement.
Carmen we thank you for presenting the trophies and Keith for calling the winners.

A special thanks to ABC Great Southern for some great coverage.

Last but not least, Hilary Motzouris, Club Secretary, you are an absolute legend. Thanks a million. We could not have done this without your organising.

A memorable weekends racing indeed and look forward to planning the next event at LAKE DUMBLEYUNG.
